Strawberry Tangle

Written By: Tuen - Oct• 03•07

Yesterday, I transplanted my strawberries from the seed tray to the main vege bed.  Or at least, I tried to transplant them.  Not having done this before, I did not realise that strawberries had such fibrous roots.  And because the seed packet had instructed me to transplant when plants are large enough to handle, and since I wasn’t sure how large they should be before I handled them, I left them in the seed tray for far too long.  Coupled with that was the mistake of sowing too many seeds close together and not thinning the seedlings.  The result was a veritable mess of tangled fibrous roots.  I think I managed to transplant 12 of them without too much damage, but we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.
